Tap & Tilt For Slab Fondler

This is a new planetarium tool I created to play with slab fondler.

  • Creative people keep finding new ways to use their smart phones. Recently, some kids used mine as a metal detector to help them find a necklace in the dark yard. In keeping with that creative spirit, I've made a new way to use phones in planetariums.

To participate, your attendees need to get out their smart phones and go to https://slab-fondler.herokuapp.com/.

Slab fondler - Tap & Tilt is a fulldome music sample visualizer which is smartphone based. You point at stuff with your phone and then can use your fingers as cursors in the shared virtual world. Here's some videos:
If you have any suggestions about how to make Tap & Tilt better, I'd love to hear from you. You can use the feedback form at the bottom of this page.

Based on all the feedback I've gotten, I've improved Tap & Tilt with a couple of new features. The operator now can select a folder of sample audio and that folder will load instead of the default samples. ogg, wav, and m4a only, sorry no mp3 support yet. The drag mechanism has been improved, with the hinge moving to the hit point of the control wand. There's now a floor which prevents the icons from falling away from view.

If you want to write your own interactive planetarium software, the source code for the server (Slab Fondler) and for the client (Tap & Tilt) are both open source. Go ahead and base your own software on these demonstrations. If you need help building something, then I'm glad to consult on your dome project. All the source is on github:
